Looking four years back when I just entered the University I could have never imagined that I will be part of a Global Stage Rocketship Startup named CleverTap.

Who Am I?

I am Prayush Jain from Udaipur, Rajasthan. I am a final year Computer Science Engineering Student at KIIT University, Bhubaneswar. Before joining CleverTap, I had an opportunity to work with premature to established Startups like Codepth, Softomatic, and HighRadius. Through this article I will be sharing my wonderful experience at CleverTap.

About CleverTap

CleverTap is a SaaS based customer lifecycle management and mobile marketing company headquartered in Mountain View, California. Founded in May 2013.

CleverTap is a well-known brand among all the mobile first app companies. It is a B2B customer engagement and retention platform that provides the functionality to integrate app analytics and marketing. The platform helps customers increase user engagement in three ways:

1. Tracks actions users are taking and analyzes how people use the product.
2. Segment users based on their actions and run targeted campaigns to these segments.
3. Analyze each campaign to understand their effect on user engagement and business metrics.

In simple words, CleverTap is a customer retention and engagement platform which helps their clients to understand how their customers (client’s customer) are using their app and what they are doing with the app and how they can retain them using the CleverTap platform and decrease their Churn rate.

Day 1

The first day at CleverTap Mumbai office was quite memorable. It was during the times of COVID, so not many people were in office. Office was quite nice and decorated and the view from the 19th floor is like that you cannot get over it as many times as you look at it. We were given a full office tour by the HR and meanwhile we interacted with the senior management people who were present in the office. The Backend lead took a quick fun session and told us deeply about the architecture how CleverTap works, how it collects the data, how they use and make the best use out of it for their customers.
We enjoyed our first day and made really good friends out there.
At the end of the day we were given CleverTap Goodies and a MacBook Pro (ofcource for work).

Internship Journey

During the times of pandemic and rising cases of COVID, we were sent back to our homes as cases were rising and no one can take the risk of life.
Breaking down my internship into 3 phases:
1. Training Period (2 months): We were provided with a Udemy Business account to learn new things. A roadmap of courses was shared with us to take us from a complete newbie to ace level. A specific mentor was provided to each intern who would solve all the doubts and help us understand the things.

2. Code Setup and Getting Started (1 month): All the interns were distributed across teams. We were then included in all the meetings and standup calls to get an understanding of how as a professional you would work and how you are meant to work. The trickiest part is the code setup which takes most of the time. We were then told to look at KT sessions to understand the codebase and code flow.

3. Task Assigning (3 months): Assigning the task with small tickets like bugs at first for the first month. Then tasks were assigned as per your availability and the need of the team.

The process was so smooth that we never knew that from an Intern when we became a Full-time employees. CleverTap knows the best how to take care of their employees and how to train them.

Things I found fascinating

1. Flexible working hours, just need to deliver the work on time.
2. KT session every week to give you an idea of the thing someone worked upon.
3. Sprint retro every two weeks to introspect what went well, and how could we improve more.
4. Fun Friday 😛
5. Their value system — PILOTS

Conclusion

A day came and it was the end of my six months internship journey but the exciting news is that the World’s largest user retention platform has retained me as a Full-time employee.
Looking forward to a fun-filled experience and lots of learning and achievements with the greatest minds at the rocketship CleverTap!🚀
